JOLLY PHONICS READING BOOKS
LEVEL 1 READING BOOKS
The Jolly Phonics Jolly Readers are interesting storybooks designed for children who are just ready to read. They will have learned all the letter sounds in Jolly Phonics, and be able to blend these sounds to read simple words (including words not seen before). The first level (red) of the "Jolly Phonics" Readers uses the basic 42 sounds introduced and the first set of Tricky words (I, the, he, she, me, we, be, was, to, do, of) The range of words is further increased by the use of feint type for silent letters in words, such as lam(b) and chees(e). At each level the stories get longer, the vocabulary is increased and more tricky words are used.
By using a good reading scheme properly children continue to gain confidence in their reading ability, as they are not constantly coming across words they do not know. As the child's reading ability increases, and they read more books, they have the skills and confidence to tackle unfamiliar and difficult words.
In Jolly Phonics the 42 letter sounds of English are taught, not just the alphabet. Listen to them here.
